Home Minister Amit Shah holds meeting with cabinet ministers amid coal shortage concerns
On Monday, Union Energy Minister RK Singh and Coal Minister Prahlad Joshi have reached the Ministry of Home Affairs to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah and senior officials of NTPC. Shah's meeting comes amid concerns about power shortage in many parts of the country due to insufficient supply of coal. Several states have written to the Centre about their concerns and warned of blackouts. However, the central government has assured that India has sufficient coal reserves to meet the demand of its power plants. On Sunday, RK Singh had stated in a press conference that earlier the power generation companies used to have coal reserves of 17 days but now it has come down to 4 days.
